Some examples from this set of practice questions
1.
Why tetrahalides are more covalent than dihalides ?
Answer: Tetrahalides are more covalent than dihalides as the cation has more positive charge and is more polarizing.
2.
Why PbI4 doesn\'t exist ?
Answer: PbI4 doesn\'t exist because the PbI4 bond forms donot release sufficient energy to excite 6s electron to 6p subshell.
3.
What are the allotropes of carbon ?
Answer: There are 2 forms of allotropes of carbon :- 1. CRYSTALLINE FORM :- i. Diamond ii. Graphite iii. Fullerene 2. AMORPHOUS FORM :- i. Coke ii. Charcoal iii. Lampblack/ soot
4.
Write about the structure of Graphite?
Answer: => Graphite has a layered structure and the layers are held by weak vanderwaal\'s force. => These layers can slide over one another hence graphite is soft and slippery hence it is used as a solid lubricant. => Each carbon atom is SP² hybridised and the 4 electron of the carbon is delocalised in π-molecular orbitals. These π- electron are free to move in between the layers. Hence Graphite is electrically conducting and is used to make electrons.
5.
How is fullerene prepared?
Answer: Fullerene is prepared by heating graphite in an electric Arc in presence of electric gases. => Most common type of fullerene is C60 which is also known as Buck minster fullerene.
