1. Directe Fick methode: twee factoren voor CO in gesloten circuit: 1) de a-VO2 verschil (verschil in zuurstof tussen slagaderlijk en gemengd-aderlijk bloed) en 2) VO2 per minuut. Fick vergelijking: CO (mL/min) = VO2 (mL/min) / a-VO2 verschil (mL/100mL bloed) x 100
2. Indicator dilution methode: een bekende hoeveelheid kleur-/radioactieve stof wordt geïnjecteerd in grote ader. Een lichtsensitief apparaat neemt slagaderlijke bloedmetingen. CO = hoeveelheid ingespoten kleurstof / gemiddeld kleurstofconcentratie in bloed op bepaalde tijd
3. CO2 herinademing: open-circuit spirometrie, CO2 bepalen met analyse apparaat. Fick's formule: CO = VCO2 / v-aCO2 verschil x 100. Voordeel: geen bloed prikken. Nadeel: vereiste aerobe ss inspanning
