1. Wet- en regelgeving
Een wet is een nationale wet die gemaakt is door de wetgever. Dat zijn in het geval van Nederland de regering en de Staten Generaal samen.
2. Jurisprudentie
Geheel aan alle rechtelijke uitspraken. Dit wordt geraadpleegd wanneer een wet algemeen is en toegepast moet worden in individuele situaties.
De rechter geeft dus een eigen invulling aan een wet (eigen manier van uitleggen), ook wel rechters recht genoemd.

Gedrag dat in algemene kring gebruikt wordt, waardoor het (een) gewoonte(recht) wordt. Dit komt niet veel voor.

Een overeenkomst tussen 2 of meer landen waarin afspraken beschreven staan. De afspraken die hierin staan vastgesteld gelden in alle landen die het verdrag ondertekenen.
