PYC4811 assignment 1

Community Psychology and Public Health share many of the same theories. Community Psychology is a branch of psychology which is concerned primarily with achieving positive mental health in the broader context of the community rather than the individual. Public health is primarily concerned and focused on changing behaviours within the context of the public in order to lower the incidence of disease and lower the workload placed on professional medical practitioners.

Select a social, economic or psychological problem in your community (for example, drug abuse, gangsterism, hijacking, unemployment or any other problem) and imagine that you have been asked to start a large-scale programme to combat the problem in your community. Write an essay describing how you would design the programme so as to embody the key principles of community psychology. The length of the essay should be about three A4 pages typed in double spacing, or about 800 words.
