Market Entry Report - Stenden Thailand (2018)
Market Entry Report (Stenden Thailand) Unit 3 (2018). Design Based Learning
This market entry report focuses on finding the most appropriate country in the ASEAN region for a student housing platform called University student housing. The purpose is to understand the ASEAN market and the differences between several countries. The research on the different countries is aiming to scale them down until the most favourable country to enter remains.
After being successfully introduced in Bangkok, Thailand, University student housing wants to expand internationally. The service was developed to enhance students experience of finding an accommodation and established a more convenient and secure search. University student housing is a platform that provides a safe environment where students can connect with each other, help each other by giving reviews and benefit from transparency. This platform is only accessible for students and landlords that are verified by the system.
The paper is divided into the analysis and discussion part and the recommended mode of entry. First, to discover the right market for University student housing to expand to, in the first part the Selection of foreign countries framework is used and explained in the following. The initial country screening shows how nine ASEAN countries score related to macroeconomic criteria. Countries are eliminated and taken further into the second screening which is about financial, economic and market indicators. Further, the third screening compares the countries based on political and legal forces presenting the guidelines of doing business there. Afterwards, the sociocultural forces are taking the research further and less countries are left. With the final and fifth screening, the competitive forces distinguish the last most promising countries. In the second part, the choice of country to enter is presented and recommendations are given.
